Partnerships for Healthy Communities Programs

P4HC values community-based participatory approaches above all others. Community members set our program and policy priorities. Through a guided discussion, residents reach a consensus about key community health issues and brainstorm solutions. Three primary goals emerged from the most recent neighborhood dialogue process in 2007:

1. Healthy eating & active living: All communities have access to affordable, nutritious food, and safe places to play and be active because these are key to staying healthy.

2. Adolescent health: All adolescents have access to the information and tools they need to be healthy, happy, and realize their dreams.

3. Health literacy: All community members have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand information needed to make appropriate health decisions for themselves, their families, and their neighborhoods.

Successful programs like these provide a foundation that allows P4HC to lead a culture shift within our partner organizations. Partner schools now refer to themselves as "wellness schools" and are leading a movement throughout their districts to increase access to healthy foods and safe places to play.

Crossing the Finish Line

Well folks, the race is over but the memories continue to flood my mind. Running the NYC Marathon was truly an experience like none other. And I improved my marathon time by 38 minutes, finishing in four hours and fourteen minutes. How could I not run faster with over two million spectators cheering me on throughout New York's five boroughs, not to mention my friends and family supporting me both in person and in spirit. It was a day I will never, ever forget. Thanks to everyone who made a donation in support of P4HC - it was an honor running on behalf of such a phenomenal organization. This site will stay online for a few more days, so if you are still considering making a contribution, it isn't too late!

The Countdown Has Begun!

In less than three weeks, I will be in New York City running the famous NYC Marathon. Help me make the most of this experience by donating to an organization that advances health equity through innovative programs, progressive policy, and bold environmental changes. Your support will help promote healthy eating and active living in Colorado!
